The Shoes of Cuba

Manolo says, look at this picture, at these poor Cuban women who must stand outside the glass looking at the shoes they cannot buy!
This man Castro, he makes the Manolo angry because he denies to the Cuban peoples who do not have the American dollars the right to buy the super fantastic shoes!
Yes, it is true, the Manolo he is the running capitalist pig-dog. He loves the Capitalism and how the market it delivers the beautiful goods to the peoples, and how it makes the work of the good designers valuable. Manolo loves this like he loves his own dear sainted Granny.
Beautiful shoes for everyone! Death to the tyrant who would deny the peoples the beautiful shoes! This it is the political philosophy of the Manolo.

I do graciously beg the pardon from the Manolo for posting the political off-topic comment. But what of the people of this capitalist country run by the Bush who cannot afford the shoes (superfantastic or not-so-superfantastic) because they cannot earn the LIVING WAGE!! Just a small thought...carry on
Manolo is absolutely right, and very brave to state such an opinion. Lamentably, what Tom Wolfe called "radical chic" never goes out of style in certain circles.
You are completely right as always, Manolo.
It is so sad that some people simply do not realize the source of their super fantastic lives and shoes. I guess they would prefer the old non-capitalistic Soviet Union, where state bureaucrats decided the shoe styles (like the Model T's, any kind you want as long as they are black, clunky and ugly. the waiting line is 3 months) and production runs in order to make sure some people did not have the choice to make or buy shoes more fantastic than others. I suggest Anonymous (who by her name is clearly not as brave as Manolo) move somewhere like this. It is too late for China now that they too, have super fantastic shoes, but I recommend North Korea, or of course Cuba, where there is not as much unfairness in the shoes as in the bad old Bush USA.
These shoes I have not doubt are available in Cuba:

Tom of the Missouri
Anonymous says, "No one laughs here! Not as long as .000000000001% of Americans go shoeless!"
If Kerry had been elected, the shoeless masses would have gotten out of their chairs and walked in Blahniks!
"But what of the people of this capitalist country run by the Bush who cannot afford the shoes (superfantastic or not-so-superfantastic) because they cannot earn the LIVING WAGE!!"
Is it your contention that they walk to their job (where they cannot earn this "LIVING" wage) barefoot? Do you have video of that? That'd make like a cool Michael Moore documentary (eyes rolling into the back of head)
Tom of the Missouri-I must reply to your coward-baiting rant. My comment was not intended to belittle the views of Manolo but rather to point out the unfortunate fact that some inequity also exists in our capitalist society. Unlike yourself, I can tolerate other viewpoints without suggesting that anyone who disagrees with mine must leave this country posthaste. Furthermore, the reason for my anonymous post is that I am an occasional viewer without a blog of my own. Peace to you all and may everyone always find the ability to garner a generous supply of the superfantastic shoes or a kind benefactor to bestow the superfantastic on their less fortunate souls.
Somebody please buy anonymous some superfantastic shoes to cheer him or her up. I know the Manolo would want it that way.
I am a happy female who can purchase her own superfantastic shoes. I am a tolerant person who feels compassion towards anyone in any country who may despite hard work (perhaps walking uphill both ways barefoot in a foot of snow-this is a joke JB) still dwell in the land of have-not. My comment was not meant to offend, it was an opinion that I will not apologize for nor will I be berated into silence by the personal attacks that have unfortunately occurred. I hope all of you who have responded with such acerbic wit will ALWAYS dwell in your superfantastic comfortable station in life.
Great post, thanks for sharing.
Hope the tyrant gets his and the Cuban get what's theirs.
Great blog.

The average Cuban is FAR poorer than ANYONE living in the USA.
Don't be mean to Erin. She didn't mean any harm by it...she just killed the Manolo's little joke, which bummed me out....and I say she STILL deserves some shoes.
Who needs superfantastic shoes when you have 100% health-care-coverage and 98% literacy?
I'm sorry! The Manolo is right, of course. EVERYONE need superfantastic shoes! Death to the unshaven bad man who gets 100% happiness from the people for his enlightened leadership! I am confused.
Nicely done, Joe. Give Castro hell with your sarcasm about how he's achieved "100% happiness." I loved it!
Perhaps the Cristo could have hung only one shmatte on a stick in Central Park, and used the rest of the money to buy super-fantastic shoes for the shoeless masses who cannot afford them in the capitalistic country run by the Bush.
Bravo, Manolo!
Fausta
Ramon Fernandez, you mock truth with your lies. The didactic dialectical duogeny requires that I negate this dyspepsia.
But others, join and unite! fight and enjoin! politicize and poop! The revolution is nigh. Our leader is somewhere, and if Manolo leads him/her to good outerwear, he/she will be rully hot, which is good enough for me, and therefore good enough for you, or else I'LL SPAM YOU TO DEATH!
Whoo boy. This is tiring. I needa job.
A non mouse,
Wants a living wage?
What kind of stupid is that.
What we need is a rich wage. Every one should live as well as the rich. I propose that we make the minimum wage $1 million an hour.
That way every one can be rich by working a few hours a week and still have plenty of time to spend the money.
Who will man the shops and run the factories?
I say we import Mexicans and Chinese. Deny them citizenship and work them to death.
Instead of exploiting the poor of other countries in their countries what we need to do is to exploit them in America.
Manolo,
Perhaps a couple of Pagamenos shoe stores in La Habana is what the Cuban people need.
I must agree with the Manolo. The shoes are beautiful.
Anonymous, Erin the Flu Stater, whatever, dahlink....maybe you could earn a living wage if you, I don't know, went to school and got an education. Yes, it is sometimes more expensive than beautiful shoes, but I think the Manolo would say it is a good thing (you get good job because of education....you buy more beautiful shoes).
I saw the shoes in Russia back when they were the Soviet Union. It would scare you even more to see them in real life, believe me. Not beautiful.
